Read to Grow

Read to Grow works to build language and literacy skills in children from the very beginning of life. Founded by a New Haven pediatrician, the organization is grounded in research showing that early exposure to books and language is critical to lifelong learning.

Its flagship Books for Babies program provides books and literacy guidance to new parents in maternity wards across Connecticut, and its Books for Kids program distributes free books through schools, clinics, and community sites. The organization has given away millions of books to families who might otherwise have few at home.

Volunteers sort and distribute donated books and help staff literacy events at hospitals and community sites.
